About the Disciple Making assessment

Thank you so much for taking this assessment! Courageous leaders always take time to discover, learn, grow, and then adjust and change - or be transformed. A part of the process of discovery, learning, and growth is anchored in the ability to honestly assess what we are doing right now and what we are going to do. From that honest assessment, adjustment and change bring transformation in ourselves and the people we lead. I am reminded that God’s Word is said to be a lamp to my feet (shows me where my feet are) and a light to my path (shows me where my feet are supposed to go).

While not claiming equal authority of scripture, what the scripture does for me is to move me towards assessment and change - transformation. By taking this assessment, we hope and pray that together we can partner with God the Holy Spirit in assessing our leadership, our faith communities, and the singular mission of the Church - to make disciples who make disciples. And, from that honest assessment, see where we must adjust and change for transformation.

Over the next few minutes, you will assess four key elements to becoming a disciple making community of faith who lives out the singular mission of Jesus for the Church:

  • Part I: Leading from the Front, Back, and the Middle

  • Part II: Training - How we train our people to be Disciple Makers

  • Part III: Disciple Making - as practice and culture within our faith communities

  • Part IV: Mission Travel - from the center to the edges of where the people or team reach

This assessment has been used in one form or another by thousands of pastors. It has provided invaluable information that shaped our training and helped pastors grow as disciple makers building disciple making communities of faith. We pray that it will do the same for you.

CAUTION: The first time I (Leonard) did an early version of this assessment, the answers were difficult, and in places, painful. I fought against the answers because of what I learned in Bible School along with my own church history, upbringing, and practices. The more honestly I assessed, the greater the turmoil.

This formula offers hope in turmoil:

HONEST ASSESSMENT + TURMOIL + HUMILITY = TRANSFORMATION
